notes :
- Wedding Photojournalism (Candid Style Documentary)Contemporary style, also known as photo reportage and documentary approach, photojournalism has become a very popular style of wedding photography, featuring a series of candid photos covering the entire day.Benefits: Wedding photojournalism gives you a series of unique images aimed to “tell the story” of your wedding day.
Drawbacks: There is no pre-planned “shot list,” only the photographer’s instincts; images are unpredictable. Low levels of available light may cause some pictures to look grainy. The couple may regret the absence of traditional, posed portraits in their album.
Photojournalism Style Wedding Photography may be best for you if:
- You want lots of candid images of your guests. You want to know your photographer is working, but not worry about it.
- You would like to spend as little time as possible on family portraits and go on with the wedding.
- You don’t want a bunch of photography equipment everywhere.
- You like candid photos such as: a flower girl and ring bearer whispering to each other during the ceremony.
Keep in mind, when you hire a photographer; you are not buying a bunch of photos.
It’s the skill, experience, and the art that you are paying for.

- traditional wedding documentary photography
The history of wedding documentary photography starts with traditional style photography. This is the everlasting style that you’ve almost certainly seen time and time again. The characteristic of this style is gently posed photographs of the key moments.
Benefits: The traditional photographers usually use a planned “shot list”, which means you’ll get all the important images.
Drawbacks: The photographer practically becomes a “wedding official,” directing the wedding party and guests according to a pre-planned list. This approach is very time consuming, and as a consequence, the bride and groom end up spending less time with their guests. The wedding album look is attractive, yet unsurprising.
Traditional Wedding Documentary Photography may be best for you if:
- You want your photographer to be the director of your wedding.
- You want to spend a lot of time posing the bride and the bridal party. You want to know when you’re being photographed.
- You’d like to pose with all your family and guests. You think candid images, for example: a wedding shoe simply lying on the floor is pretty silly.
You may not be able to answer a clear yes or no, but the idea is to give you a clue of what you should expect. Consider this, every photographer is in business. Their objective is to sell artwork.
Keep in mind, when you hire a photographer; you are not buying a bunch of photos.
It’s the skill, experience, and the art that you are paying for.

- pre-wedding / post-wedding photography (outdoor)
The pre-wedding style photographers place the subjects in certain surroundings to take benefit of good lighting or environment.
Then, once the scene is set, the couple are free to be themselves or will be directing by stylist and this resultswill be a portraiture like photography.Unlike the candid-journalism or documentary style, pre-wedding photography takes advantage of the photographer’s artistic judgment rather than capturing a series of moments. This style often used in engagement photography. The picture mostly hanging on the wedding day.
Keep in mind, when you hire a photographer; you are not buying a bunch of photos.
It’s the skill, experience, and the art that you are paying for.
